jack-o’-lantern Munch-style

For the past several years the ritual of transforming a pumpkin into a jack-o’-lantern has been a lonely rite. I’m the only one left in our household that seems to have any remaining enthusiasm for this seedy, goopy operation. Why do I bother? Hallowe’en just wouldn’t be the same without it. I do it partly for the dwindling number of trick-or-treaters, but mostly for myself (who can resist the warm, orange glow). The face is based loosely on Edvard Munch’s painting The Scream and has gone through a number of variations over the years.
